Meet new people

Being part of our choir is a wonderful social activity. There are plenty of opportunities to expand your social circle with like-minded people who share your lust for life and song!

NMC has a varied, mixed group of blokes from all types of backgrounds. But when we sing we are all the same.

Enjoy a bit of leg pulling, have a laugh and then share that great feeling of a super performance, enjoying seeing a happy audience

It’s a really friendly team!

…and here are some of our members and their thoughts

I wasn’t even looking to join a choir, apart from singing in the car or the odd birthday party I had never thought about singing every week, let alone perform in public! A family member, who was in the choir invited me to the practice room on the following Monday to sit, listen, join in, whatever, just to see. I was all set to say “nah it’s not for me thanks” and “maybe in a few years time”. When I thought, why have I made a decision already? I haven’t had a look, I didn’t know anything about the choir. So I went and received a very warm welcome from a group of men all glad to see a new face. That was in 2019 and I have been going ever since. I have a busy life with family and work, but the choir fits into it without giving up any free time. All of us sing as a group, as a team, there are no individuals and as a proud Cornishman the choir is the definition of “One and All”.

‘I was working long hours in a stressful NHS job at the time when it was suggested by a friend who was one of the choir members to come along to a practice. I had known nothing of the choir and initially felt I didn’t have to time to commit to it, but he persuaded me to at least come and have a taster session. At first it seemed daunting as the choir seemed to effortlessly rehearse songs that seemed complex to me but the welcome from the group of men I sat with and the reassurance that all would come good with time helped. After the voice check, and being placed in one of the sections, I then realised that the practice evening had become a haven of peace away from the hectic world I was working in, and being part of a group creating something provided a calming effect that would last long after leaving the practice room.   The choir provides a sense of cameradery that is hard to find nowadays and I will long be grateful to my friend who encouraged me to join.

I joined the Choir just before Covid as a novice with little singing experience. My motivation to join was all about company, camaraderie, achievement and some social fun as well. Concert performances, and singing at all sorts of events, have given me satisfaction and makes me feel good. It’s a very happy, active, friendly picture that hopefully shows how welcome you would be if you come and join our group.

And the latest three to join in spring 2025 are:

John Moxom, John Palmer and Matt Reid
